About
Privacy
Two cookies at most, one email address if you ask for the newsletter, and nothing passed to anyone who wants to sell you something.
What we collect
One analytics cookie, and only after you accept it. It tells us which pieces get read and which get abandoned, which is how we decide what to write next. Decline and nothing is set.
Your email address, only if you subscribe to the newsletter. It is used to send the newsletter and to answer your replies. Unsubscribe in one click and the address is removed.
Request logs at the network that serves the site. Every site has these. They record the page requested, a timestamp, and the requesting IP address, and they exist so the site can be kept up and abuse can be spotted. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
What we do not do
No advertising trackers. No pixels from social networks. No fingerprinting, no session recording, no heat maps. We do not sell, rent, or share what we collect, and there is no data broker in the chain. We take no vendor money, so there is no one to sell it to.
Cookies
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| ns_consent | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so you are asked once. | 180 days |
| _ga | Google Analytics. Tells one browser from another so a repeat visit is not counted as a new reader. Set only if you accept. | 2 years |
| _ga_ plus a property code | Google Analytics session state. Set only if you accept. | 2 years |
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a decline and do not ask.
How to change your choice
Use this control. It clears the stored decision and brings the banner back, so you can answer again.
The control needs JavaScript. If it does not appear, your browser has JavaScript switched off, in which case no analytics ran in the first place.
